Joe Jones, Grand Rapids City Commissioner, 2nd Ward
I’m in full support of Reverend Dr. Fred Wooden for U.S. Congress. Fred Wooden is not only a dear friend, but I consider him to be a great ally and I’ll go one step further, and refer to him as an accomplice. Fred has had a career that has been filled with activism, action, and compassion. I’ve watched as this man has come into Grand Rapids, and has been someone who has hit the ground running. He is someone who I trust. He is someone who, I believe, will be a great representative for all people in the Third District.
Rev. Justo Gonzalez II
Fred represents my core values. He stands for dignity, respect, and the inclusion of all people. He is committed to making our economy work for everyone and believes that everyone should have affordable healthcare. I know he will represent the voices of his constituents as a Congressman.
It’s time for someone who cares about people and Western Michigan.
Having known Fred since he arrived here in Grand Rapids I have come to respect those attributes which should be mandatory for any civil servant. He is compassionate, pragmatic, vigilant & loyal. Beyond that, he has a grasp of the complexities that are inherent in every important political and social issue. His understanding of the Constitution is impressive. And with the wisdom that he has acquired in life, he still maintains an intellectual curiosity that few can match. I believe that Fred Wooden can help West Michigan attain the next level in social justice economic prosperity and quality of life.
Fred is a wise man and a level-headed thinker, he does not rise to the bait of the normal political shade throwing, he is willing to work with anyone who has a goal to move our country forward.
I have known Fred Wooden for over ten years as pastor of my church and a friend. I can think of no one more qualified to serve as a congressman from Western Michigan. His integrity, wisdom, knowledge, deep concern for all, especially the disadvantaged and neglected members of our country are unsurpassed. Fred knows the distant, recent, and current history of America and believes there is room for all, without discrimination, as evidenced by his leadership in the Urban League and active participation in community activities. He is deeply concerned about manís neglect and callousness toward the environment and is not afraid of facing this issue head-on. He knows and understands racism, gender issues, and ìmanís inhumanity toward manî, issues which must be aggressively addressed.Who else is there?
We need integrity, intelligence, and common sense in Washington. Fred will bring those qualities to Congress.
Fred is a thoughtful, caring, conscientious voice of reason. He’s served the public for forty years as a minister and he’ll make an excellent representative.
When I heard his sermons at FSC as a young adult in 2008 I always thought he had the right ideas and how to conscientiously move an audience.
I am supporting Fred Wooden because of his background in social justice ministry. I believe that it is time to move away from the vitriol that has infected the American Christianity because of their being hi-jacked by the Republican Party and atheistic philosophy of Ayn Rand that guides their ideology. You cannot merge the altruistic ideology of Jesus with the atheistic hatred for the disadvantaged that guides Republican ideology. You cannot claim Christianity and act counter to the teachings of Jesus. I believe that Fred Wooden can and will represent my values in Congress. I am also a Cold War Veteran who cannot believe that Republicans have abdicated their responsibility to protect our democracy from interference from the former Soviet Union. It seems clear that former KGB officer Vladimir Putin wants to restore the glory of the former Soviet Union. Wooden will protect us from this foe.
I have had the pleasure of being a co-host on Fred’s radio show, and it couldn’t have been better. He helped nuture my speaking skills and made me think more about going in to broadcasting. Besides that, Fred is extremely about political and social affairs, and I hope he will bring that knowledge to the halls of the US Capitol. Good luck, and I am proud to endorse you for Congress.
I have listened to Fred Wooden for many years on his radio program. He has great ideas that are much needed now!
I share his values and commitment to work hard for those who are marginalized in our community and to promote social justice in the allocation of scarce resources.
Fred has the perspective to look at the whole situation and is passionate about equality and justice.
American politics needs a dose of sanity. The country also needs religious/political leaders who are more in line with Reinhold Niebuhr than Jerry Falwell.
As a retired and experienced business attorney, I am amazed at Fred’s knowledge of economics, politics, Michigan concerns, environment, immigration, and international affairs. You want a candidate with knowledge, Fred is it.
However, my support of Fred actually centers on his full and honest concern about the welfare of ordinary people. He is running for Congress because he cares. If you care, join me and vote for Fred Wooden, who I endorse to represent each of us in Congress.
